Excellent reception and hospitality

We spent a night (the first) in this hotel on our 2016 touring holiday, this time to Andaluzia. The hotel itself is a bit old with patina, but the room was comfortable, clean and with air conditioning - vital in the Andalusian summer.
We didn't dine there but had a great breakfast in the morning.
What was really special was the hotel manager, his history, his sympathy and the way he made us feel welcome - a really special person.
We look forward to stay there again, in another visit to spend time photographing the incredible and outlandish scenery of the Riotinto area.

Convenient for Rio Tinto mines

The hotel is a bit of a throwback to the sixties/seventies, but is comfortable, inexpensive and serves good food. It's positioned in a village only about 5 kms from Minas de Riotinto, so is convenient for anyone wanting to do the tours from there. The friendly owner doesn't speak english but is very keen to tell you about his singing career and giving you an impromptu show with the use of his karaoke machine. If you stay here, it's comfortable without being luxurious, serves good food and is in a way a small reflection of Spain as it was a few decades ago.

They treat you like their long lost family - brilliant!

I stayed here on a field trip with a group of students (I was one of the instructors). It's a large hotel with plenty of meeting space and lots of rooms. The rooms were pretty basic and not soundproof, but very clean and reasonably comfortable. A tip: if everyone returns to the hotel and jumps in the shower at once, the hot water goes quickly. The location is perfect for access to Rio Tinto sites. The best thing about the hotel is the staff. The proprietor was a lounge singer in his youth and will serenade you when he's in the mood. He has a karaoke machine and lets his guests have a go. He takes pride in his service and is incredibly helpful if you are respectful of him and his hotel (i.e., don't let the students run amok). He does not speak English and speaks a flowery Spanish (apparently quite poetic but hard for someone with only traveller's Spanish to understand it all). His son is less effusive but is friendly, extremely professional and very very capable and helpful. Considering the prices included full board and unlimited wine, it was super cheap! Wifi was dodgy and mainly worked in the central areas. There is not much to buy or see in Nerva itself and lots of places close early and on weekends. It was actually hard to find open shops to buy stuff like snacks and shampoo.

Combines the personability of a B&B with the facilities of a medium-sized hotel

I have stayed here several times over the past 11 years, on business nearby. The hotel reception is on the second floor above the restaurant and bar areas... it is lovely and was apparently renovated since I was last here several years ago.
Despite that time lag, the proprietor (Casiano) still remembered me, even my food allergies! And made little gestures of care... even sending me up with free bottles of mineral water. Making sure my laundry was done promptly... finding me parking. Wonderful hospitality and an old-fashioned true innkeeper. The facility is picturesque inside and clean. The free wifi was useful in running a teleconference back to my employer. And meals in the restaurant are classical Spanish cuisine, tasty and not expensive.

Hotel Vazquez Diaz

One of the friendliest places I've ever had the please to stay at.
I was part of a group of 30 students who came over to study the Rio Tinto area, and despite the difficulties associated with such a large group of people the food was always timely and delicious, the rooms were always clean and comfortable, and the staff were helpful and kind (and did their best to humour and understand my bad Spanish!). Each night the owner would sing for us, and then we would have a go at karaoke ourselves. We were treated like friends the entire time, and I would love to go back again.
