1. The Legian Bali
This all-suite hotel lets you unwind completely with your companion. When you decide to eventually emerge from your private sanctuary, soak in their tiered pools facing a pristine white sand beach, and treat yourself to a hot oil scalp massage or a local speciality at their world-renowned spa. The hotel restaurant is built with romantic dinners in mind: candle lights, sparkling pools and the surf in the background.
Situated on the west coast of the island, near the airport and nestled among a dozen other resorts, The Legian combines its private suites and ambience with easy access to shopping, dining and simply exploring Bali together. It’s a good mix of quiet getaway and travel adventure. Couples with kids can take advantage of a variety of supervised play activities while the adults nip off for some private time too.
2. Four Seasons Resort at Jimbaran Bay
Despite being part of an international western chain, the Jimbaran Bay Four Seasons is built as a replica of a traditional Balinese village. The winding floor plan offers plenty of private nooks and crannies to steal a kiss between the luxurious public pools, local speciality dinners and spacious suites. Husbands or boyfriends can spoil their better halves with a day at the spa while he takes a Balinese cooking class, complete with a tour to the local fish and vegetable markets.
Jimbaran Bay is in the northwest corner of South Kuta, a less-populated section of Bali, but still close to the resort and entertainment districts just on the other side of the airport. It’s a perfect home base for couples who enjoy nesting in luxury and exploring the surrounding area.
3. Alila Villas Uluwatu
What’s better than a private suite? Try a private suite with its own pool. Alila Villas offers that, along with a public pool overlooking the ocean, plus authentic Balinese cuisine at their famed restaurant. The place has a romantic couple vibe, along with a spa that offers treatments as well as detox, yoga lessons and other wellness programs. A great location to get in touch with each other and yourselves.
Uluwatu is on the western tip of South Kuta, a peninsula jutting out south of the main island of Bali. It’s a less densely populated area and well-suited for couples who want to spend some quality time together away from distractions. Even so, everything you need for a night on the town is just a short ride away.
4. Amankila Resort Bali
Active couples will enjoy the robust activities offered here, including snorkelling, scuba diving and trekking in the nearby jungles. In the mood to simply curl up somewhere comfortable? The private suites and public grounds at Amankila offer everything you need to unwind together. The hotel’s set of three-tiered pools overlooking the eastern coast and the Pacific Ocean has been featured in travel and design magazines as among the most impressive in the world. Though less than a quarter century old, the Amankila is one of the most prestigious in Bali and on the Condé Nast Gold List.
A bit off the beaten path, Amankila is in Manggis on the eastern side of the island. Between the location and the hotel’s small size (only 34 suites on expansive grounds) this is for couples who want an exclusively private, quiet getaway in an island paradise.
5. Ayana Resort and Spa
What’s more romantic than a destination wedding? The Ayana Resort makes a speciality of this happiest of events by offering seven venues for the big day. Take for instance, a glass chapel overlooking the crashing waves, a 350-year old traditional meeting hall or a garden resplendent with tropical flora. Amenities for guests include an award-winning spa, quiet restaurants and a club-like bar for the after-parties. Menu, spa and room service options all include couples-themed choices for the newly-weds and their guests too.
Ayana is located on South Kuta, but closer to the airport and business district than the other resorts on the peninsula, offering both quiet time together and quick access to shopping, shows and dinners out.
