Saudi is a growing destination for sports and high-octane entertainment, with significant investments in top-class facilities and events propelling the Kingdom onto the world stage.
The country hosts some prestigious sporting events that bring global names to compete in the heart of Arabia, and offers fans plenty to do once the big event is over.
LIV Golf Tournament
When it emerged in 2021, the Saudi-backed LIV Golf Tournament was the startup disruptor of the golf scene. The format differs from traditional golf tournaments, covering 54 holes instead of 72 (L, I and V are the Roman numerals for 54), and the players all tee off at the same time. All-in, it makes for a faster game.

Golf on the Saudi coast
The 2025 LIV Tournament kicks off at Riyadh Golf Club in February. The desert oasis course also hosts the Saudi Open and the women’s Aramco Team Series.
Saudi Arabian Grand Prix
Speed is undoubtedly the name of the game at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Since the inaugural race in 2021, the Jeddah Corniche Circuit has quickly become a favourite among Formula 1 fans and drivers.
Known for its high-speed layout–it’s the fastest street circuit in the world–and challenging corners, this night-time circuit guarantees an exhilarating experience for drivers and spectators.
The Red Sea International Film Festival
The Red Sea International Film Festival is a relatively new but increasingly significant event in the film industry, particularly in the Middle East and North Africa. It’s a platform for Arab cinema, showcasing filmmakers and films from Saudi, the Arab world, and the Global South.

Founded in 2019 in Jeddah, the festival features over 130 movies, prizes for feature and short films, red-carpet events with A-list celebrities, and various workshops and panel discussions with industry professionals.
Riyadh Season
Another flagship event in the Saudi cultural calendar is the Riyadh Season. Running from late October to early March, it’s one of the largest entertainment festivals in the world. It features a vast range of events, including concerts, theatre productions, sports events, and food festivals that celebrate local and international cultures.

Riyadh Season
Launched in 2019, Riyadh Season has expanded every year. This year, the city will feature 14 distinct zones, each offering different experiences, including 100 festivals and exhibitions, plus 11 international sporting championships. Thankfully, there’s an app to help you find and book events and experiences.
Take to the skies
Once the thrill of a big-ticket event has subsided, there are still more exciting experiences to be found in Saudi. For lasting memories and sensational views, take a short helicopter tour. In under an hour, you can take in Saudi’s diverse landscapes and burgeoning cities and get a sense of their scale.

Helicopter rides over Riyadh
A 30-minute flight over AlUla, Saudi’s first UNESCO World Heritage site, offers desert views and a bird’s eye perspective of the iconic Elephant Rock and Hegra archaeological site. A 40-minute flight over Riyadh will take you high above the city’s major landmarks, including the Kingdom Tower, the King Abdullah Financial District and Kingdom Arena Stadium.
Another thrilling option is the Khaybar helicopter tour, with stunning views of ancient monuments and the region’s unique geological features, including the magnificent White Volcano.
Beyond the main events
Saudi offers a wealth of experiences for visitors looking to extend their stay after attending a major sporting event or festival. From desert adventures and cultural immersion to luxury resorts and modern shopping malls, you can unwind or keep the adrenaline pumping on an extended stay.

Stargazing, quad bikes and Al-Balad in Jeddah
Stargazing in the vast Saudi deserts or relaxing on the shores of the Red Sea offer the perfect antidote to the exhilaration of a big event. Stay in the desert for thrilling dune bashing, traditional camel riding, or a full-on Bedouin experience. Or head to the coast for watersports, including world-class diving and the perfect conditions for windsurfing.
Saudi’s historical sites are a treat for cultural explorers, including the Nabatean tombs of AlUla and the ancient mud-brick city of Diriyah. The historic Al Balad district of Jeddah is also worth a visit for its narrow, winding streets, traditional architecture and alluring souks.
Alternatively, take a city break in Riyadh, with its modern skyscrapers and shopping districts next to historical sites, including Masmak Fortress, and cultural attractions such as the National Museum.
