About Japan Transocean Air

JTA, or more formally the Japan Transocean Air Co., Ltd., is an airline operating on the Naha Airport, located in the Okinawa Prefecture of Japan. It serves domestic flights within the country. JTA was established on June 20, 1967 and was then known as Southwest Airlines. It changed its name to the current one on July 1993. It flew Convair 240s until new capital from its major shareholder, Japan Airlines, allowed it to upgrade to NAMCE YS-11s, and eventually Boeing 737s. JTA occasionally lends aircraft to Japan Airlines in the event of equipment failure, and provides maintenance services for the Japan Airlines Group Boeing 737-400 aircraft. Apart from the main JTA brand, Japan Transocean Air Co., Ltd., also owns 72% of the shares for Ryukyu Air Commuter, another low-cost airline operating domestic services in the country.

Apart from the traditional check-in counters, Japan Transocean Air and its sister, Japan Airlines, offer various types of check-in services that give way to a more hassle-free arrival and boarding. Travelers have the option to use the JAL Touch and Go feature, where in they can download the two dimensional bar code that will be flashed to security. This then will allow the passengers to skip the lines and just skip to security, and then board their flight. Other methods of check-in also include self-service kiosk available at select airports.
Seat classes for JTA vary depending on the aircraft, but the general division is comprised of First class, Business class, and Economy class. First class passengers get to enjoy great seat pitch, complimentary services and extras, special airport services such as check-in and lounges, and superb meals. Business class passengers, meanwhile, enjoy a great seat pitch and complimentary drinks. Lastly, Economy class passengers get to enjoy comfortable seating arrangements at an affordable price.
At present, Japan Transocean Air flies to several destinations across the various prefectures and islands in Japan. The airline flies to the Honshu Island, to the Chubu region, Chugoku Region, Kansai Region, and Kanto Region, and has flights to Tokyo and Osaka. The airline also flies to Kyushu, in the Fukuoka Prefecture; Ryukyu Islands in its Okinawa Prefecture, and Shikoku in Ehime Prefecture and Kochi Prefecture. Previously, the airline also flew to Shimojishima in the Okinawa Prefecture.
In-flight services include great seat selection and reservation schemes, food and beverage services (Available mainly for first class; business and economy classes may order and purchase before the flight), in-flight entertainment options such as overhead and personal screens, provision for music, and others. In-flight shopping is also available on-board, along with the in-flight magazine, “Coralway.”
